Install with Apple container
Run the same Tally, PostgreSQL, and ClickHouse images as the Docker deployment with Apple container on an Apple silicon Mac. A script from the Tally repository starts and connects the containers; no Tally binary is installed.
Before you start#
- An Apple silicon Mac with macOS 26 or newer.
- Apple container, installed.
- OpenSSL, used once to generate passwords. macOS includes it.
Install and start#
1. Download the script
mkdir -p ~/godel-tally && cd ~/godel-tally
curl -fsSLO https://raw.githubusercontent.com/godellabs-ai/godel-tally/main/deploy/apple/tally-container.sh2. Create the settings file
The script reads every setting from .env in the same folder. This command generates the secret key and database passwords once and makes the file readable only by you:
(umask 077 && cat > .env <<EOF
TALLY_URL=https://localhost:8443
TALLY_PUBLISH_BIND=0.0.0.0:8443
TALLY_SECRET_KEY=$(openssl rand -hex 32)
TALLY_POSTGRES_PASSWORD=$(openssl rand -hex 32)
TALLY_CLICKHOUSE_PASSWORD=$(openssl rand -hex 32)
EOF
)3. Start Tally
bash tally-container.sh upThe script waits until Tally is ready, then prints its address. Open it, accept the self-signed certificate, and create the first account.
Settings and certificate#
The same settings apply as for Docker. To use your own certificate, put tally.crt and tally.key in the tls folder. After changing .env or the certificate, run bash tally-container.sh up again.
Run, update, and remove#
Apple container does not restart containers automatically. After restarting your Mac, run bash tally-container.sh up again; it reuses the data volumes.
bash tally-container.sh status
bash tally-container.sh logs
bash tally-container.sh stop # stop; data is kept
bash tally-container.sh remove # delete the containers; keep data volumes
# Delete all Tally data after remove:
container volume rm godel-tally-stack-postgres godel-tally-stack-clickhouse godel-tally-stack-dataTo update, download the script again (step 1) or set TALLY_IMAGE_TAG in .env, then run bash tally-container.sh up.
